Spring Cleaning Day
Community ditch cleaning is scheduled annually before irrigation season. The next date and work-day details will be posted here.
Date to be announcedFor generations, the parciantes (water rights holders) of La Placita Acequia Sur have worked together to care for, maintain, and preserve our historic acequia system. Rooted in the traditions of our ancestors, our acequia represents far more than a means of irrigation. It is a symbol of our heritage, our connection to the land, and the enduring spirit of our community.
In the early days of our community, irrigation water was essential to survival. The sacred waters flowing through our acequia brought life to the land, nourished crops, sustained families, and helped establish the agricultural traditions that continue to define our way of life.
Today, our acequia remains just as important—not only for agriculture, but also for cultural preservation, historical heritage, and the protection of our precious water resources. We believe that water is a shared community resource that must be respected, responsibly managed, and protected for future generations.
Our commitment is to preserve water rights on historically irrigated lands, encourage local agriculture, support sustainable water practices, and ensure that future generations have the opportunity to cultivate the land and benefit from a reliable source of irrigation water.
The annual cleaning and maintenance of our acequia, traditionally known as the limpia, is more than a responsibility. It is a time-honored tradition that brings neighbors together, strengthens community bonds, and promotes unity, cooperation, and shared stewardship.
La Placita Acequia Sur is dedicated to honoring the wisdom of our ancestors while protecting the water, land, and traditions entrusted to us.
Together, we preserve the lifeblood of our community—one generation at a time.
Our mission is to care for the water, infrastructure, and traditions that sustain our parciantes and community.
